ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX: the most important questions and answers

Benefiting from short and medium-term opportunities on the markets while at the same time betting on long-term future trends – something the new mixed fund ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX makes possible. We have compiled the most important questions and answers about the launch of the new fund for you.

Note: Please note that an investment in securities entails risks in addition to the opportunities described.

In what assets does ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX invest?

The fund focuses on long-term investment themes on the one hand and on short- and medium-term opportunities that may emerge from developments on the market on the other. In a nutshell, it combines both worlds – long-term trends and short- and medium-term opportunities.

As a mixed fund, ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX can draw on a broad spectrum of asset classes: equities, bonds, private listed markets, commodities, and currencies – a broad mix of assets and thus a wide range of opportunities. Please note that investing in securities entails risks as well as opportunities.

What is special about the new fund?

There is a lot of talk on the market about long-term and structural trends that come with great potential. Among them are topics such as environmental technologies, which are particularly crucial in the fight against climate change, artificial intelligence, and digitalisation.

The special and intriguing aspect about ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX is that it focuses on these major trends on the one hand but does not ignore the fact that the markets always offer opportunities to capitalise on short-term developments on the other. This is made possible by the active and flexible management of the fund. As a mixed fund, ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX may also invest in trends that are not accessible via the equity markets. Please note that investing in securities entails risks as well as opportunities.

Short- and medium-term opportunities – what does that mean?

The economy tends to run in cycles: a boom phase is usually followed by an economic downturn. After an economic downturn ends at the bottom, a new recovery and upswing follows, resulting in renewed growth.

Around these economic cycles, there are always opportunities on the market that can be used with an active investment strategy. For example, some sectors of the economy have suffered more than others as a result of the coronavirus crisis, such as the cruise industry. This led to rating downgrades for some companies. As business is flourishing again after the pandemic, there is a chance that these companies may be upgraded again, which would be followed by possible gains in the bond prices of these companies. Thanks to its active and flexible approach, ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX can capitalise on such opportunities. It should be noted that a possible rating downgrade could also lead to price losses.

What long-term trends does the fund focus on?

The world is changing, and some investment themes are becoming increasingly important. Trends such as the rise in digitalisation and the energy transition are likely to have a major impact on our lives over the coming decades.

It therefore makes sense to focus on these long-term and structural developments, even if it is not yet clear which technologies and companies will prevail within the trends in the long term. Here is an overview of the most important long-term trends on which ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX focuses:

But how are these trends now being reflected in the fund? With regard to AI, for example, the focus is on pioneering companies in this technology. These include the major technology groups Nvidia, Microsoft, and the semiconductor company ASML.

Please note: the companies listed here have been selected as examples and do not constitute an investment recommendation. Promising companies may not be investable for sustainability reasons. It is not yet possible to predict which companies will benefit most from these trends in the long term.

How and where can one buy the new fund?

ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX can be bought at all Erste Bank and Sparkasse branches throughout Austria, online, or in George, also after the end of the subscription period. If you want to start your investment gradually or make a regular contribution to ERSTE OPPORTUNITIES MIX, you can also open a savings plan for the fund. This is possible from as little as EUR 50.

Please note: The average cost effect decreases as the term of the savings plan increases, as the assets saved behave more and more as if the total amount had been invested once. Depending on market developments, a one-off investment can also prove to be more favorable. Investing in securities involves risks as well as opportunities
